New Series｜Majorelle
YUKIKO NORITAKE

Several years ago, during a visit to Marrakech, YUKIKO NORITAKE spent time at the Majorelle Garden, created by the French painter Jacques Majorelle and later cherished by Yves Saint Laurent.

Its distinctive Moroccan ornamentation, vivid colours, and clearly defined forms convey a strong sense of vitality that continues to resonate through the space.

The movement of water, overlapping leaves, and the dense physical presence of succulent plants.
Birdsong, the sound of frogs filling the waterside air, and the quiet trace of turtles gliding beneath water lilies.

In the Majorelle series, this living presence, received through the senses, is expressed through the artist’s own perceptual language.

Leaves strike the surface of the paper with a rhythmic force.
Water spreads across the picture plane.
Lush greenery meets the vivid tones of earth.

Within these works, one senses not only colour and form, but also sound, fragrance, and even the intensity of light, evoking the vitality that fills the garden in the month of May.


新シリーズ 「マジョレル」

数年前、マラケシュを訪れた YUKIKO NORITAKE が足を運んだマジョレルガーデン。
フランスの画家ジャック・マジョレルが創り、のちにイヴ・サンローランに愛された邸宅と庭園です。
モロッコならではの装飾、鮮烈な色彩、明確な輪郭。
その空間に息づく生命の豊かさが、強く感じられます。

水面の揺らぎ、重なり合う葉、多肉植物の張りつめた質量感。
鳥の囀り、水辺に満ちる蛙の声、亀が水蓮の下をすり抜ける気配。
「マジョレル」シリーズでは、五感で受け取った“生”が、彼女の感覚を通して描かれています。

紙面に打ち付けるように描かれる葉、水のひろがり。
生い茂る緑と、鮮やかな土の色。
音や香り、強い光までもが立ち上がってくるような画面には、5月の庭に満ちる生命の気配が映し出されています。
